"A Beacon of Hope"
The Greater Four Corners Action Coalition leads policy advocacy campaigns, facilitates resident leadership & community power building activities as well as convenes community building events throughout the year. Some of our signature community events include our annual Four Corners Weekend, Fall Turkey Give-Away, Winter Holiday Party, Spring Clean-Up and Back to School Back Pack Give-A-Way. Our current policy campaigns are focused on Anti-Displacement and Housing Justice. Through our collaborative work with Councilor Worrell’s office and sister organization Action for Equity we have taken the lead in the long overdue establishment of a Special Protection Zone. This campaign is paired with our work advocating for tenant protections to ensure green building upgrades- as part of the City of Boston Building Emissions Reduction & Disclosure (BERDO) implementation process- do not result in rent hikes and tenant removal.
As part of the Boston Health Commission’s Community Healing Response Network (CHRN) Dorchester Cares Coalition GFCAC partners with Bowdoin Street Health Center, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Boston Medical Center’s Violence Intervention Advocacy Program (VIAP) to provide trauma and healing support for individuals and families impacted by violence. GFCAC also works with active community members, Neighborhood Associations and community organizations to develop prevention and community building strategies.
As we celebrate our 35th year in operation and look toward the coming 35 years, GFCAC is implementing our Art as Organizing initiative which will activate the Four Corners Washington St. Corridor open air & community spaces with music, poetry, story telling, and paint-and-chat events. This initiative is designed to bring neighbors together to deter crime, engage youth and boost Neighborhood Association participation, while introducing residents to GFCAC’s organizing and policy advocacy work.
Community Building & Bonding
GFCAC hosts Four Corners Weekend every year to celebrate the rich culture and unity of the Dorchester Community. It provides an opportunity to bring together residents, partners, and local leaders to collaborate on building a stronger, more vibrant neighborhood.
Four Corners Weekend kicks off on Friday with a community fish fry, catered by Down Home Delivery, a beloved soul food restaurant in the neighborhood. Saturday begins with a vibrant community market featuring local vendors, followed by a family fun day at Mother's Rest Park, complete with a bounce house and activities for kids.
Alongside our major annual event, Greater Four Corners Action Coalition is proud to host smaller community building events throughout the year. These include our annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive, where we distribute non-perishables and turkeys to families in the community, and our Community Holiday Party, which brings joy to local children with games, snacks, and presents. Each fall, we also organize a Back-to-School Backpack Giveaway, providing essential school supplies to students in our community, either directly or through partnerships with other organizations. Also, every spring with join the City of Boston in Celebrating Earth day with a community clean up.
